The Lucky List

I had a hard weekend and I am feeling it tonight- physically tired and brain dead. It was one of those weekends so committed to other things that it almost doesn’t count as a weekend at all. The commitments actually started Thursday night when my youngest son and I baked cupcakes and brownies, from scratch, for a fundraiser on Friday. This included turning 24 peanut M&Ms into bumble bees by rolling tootsie rolls into strings to be wrapped around each M&M, and cutting spiced gum-drops into insect wings. Early Friday evening my oldest son cashed in on a promise I made to take him to see the Lighten Thief on its opening night. Of course the movie rolled over into dinner, and by the time I got home I felt like I had found Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt and returned it to Mount Olympus myself (even though it was only 10:00). Saturday morning’s Taekwon-do tournament bled into Saturday afternoon, which left just enough to time to spend the rest of the day schlepping my 16 year old around on a local job-hunting excursion. I will spare you the details of the remainder of the weekend. Trust me when I tell you “And so on” is a perfect summary.
As exhausted as I am, I am not complaining. To be honest with you, I appreciate these weekends for one simple reason: they are mine to have. I have two amazing sons to make promises to, sisters and parents to run errands with, friends to bake for, and a home that needs to be cleaned simply because it is so completely and wonderfully lived in. I am on the lucky list. All I have to do to remind myself of that fact is look at the blessings that are responsible for my commitments. In fact, that is why I have nothing to blog about tonight… I am blessed with being too tired to write!
